EXPERIENCE:

2008-Present Owner of and Master Dog Trainer at WalkenStrutt and Focus Dog Training

1997-2010 Founder of an academic curriculum for Professional Dog Training: 1-year program that focuses on all aspects of dog training; 4 days/week, 6 hours/day

1992-2002 Owner of Walkenstrutt German Shepherds

  • Two kennel facilities: Florissant, CO and Amsterdam, Netherlands
  • Imported and bred German Shepherds
  • Trained dogs for personal protection and police canine units
  • Operated a targeted program that donated 2 fully-trained police canines to underfunded law enforcement departments across the United States
  • Non-profit demonstrations for DARE programs

1994-1998 Owner of Blue Hills Boarding Kennels, 100-runs

  • Longmont, CO
  • Hosted puppy kindergarten classes 4 days/week, 15 clients/class
  • Trained family and service dogs
  • Served as an expert witness for Boulder and Gunnison county court cases related to dog bite injuries
  • Provided a non-profit board & train for clients of the Boulder County battered women's shelter

 

ADDITIONAL SERVICE EXPERIENCE:

1995-1998 Voluntary consultant for Longmont Humane Society via a grand-funded community-based program

  • Coordinated programs for community education and evaluation of dogs at intake
  • Gave lectures to the community on assessment of dogs, how to purchase dogs, housebreaking and general obedience
  • Staffed monthly Q&A sessions for humane society employees: how to recognize aggressive dogs, how to handle dog fights, recognizing levels of aggression, how to prep for purchase, social skills

1998-2000 Teller County 4H Dog training: We sent 2 participants to state 4H competition for their fully off-leash-trained dogs

2008-2009 Teller County Regional Animal Shelter (TCRAS)

  • Evaluated canine intakes and developed specialized training for high-risk dogs and those with low likelihood of adoption based on personality
